Perhaps painted in one of Charles Webster Hawthorne’s famous Provincetown classes,these were the students’ first efforts . They were taught to capture the effects of sunlight one the figure using only large, simple masses of color. These were usually painted right on the beach as models posed in the glare of the full sun.
